Award ceremonies were held in December of 2006 when the Foundation awarded grants to Sandtown Middle School and Westlake High School.

Sandtown MS Grant

A grant of $1000.00 was awarded to Sandtown Middle School for their CRCT Success Rally held in April 2007. 

Westlake HS Grants

Grant #1 - Dr. Ajile A. Rahman $2,750.00

Program Title: Experience Atlanta 2007 - this program is done in three phases.  The purpose of the program is to bring the chance to visit some of Atlanta's most popular venues to the students of Westlake.  The phases are:  Historic Atlanta - Field trips to expose students to Atlanta's rich history and to introduce them to the political institutions found in Atlanta.  Black Atlanta - Students would benefit academically and socially by learning about their own heritage and culture; how leaders and citizens of the black community have contributed to the uplifting of the greater Atlanta, community the nation and the world. Fine Arts Atlanta - this is the final phase of the project involves increasing students' awareness and appreciation of the fine arts.  This phase will include a trip to the High Museum of art, Woodruff Arts Center, Hammonds House Gallery and Resource Center and the Fox Theatre with the "Mighty Mo" organ.

Grant #2 - Kevin Cole and Renee Ruffin $3,000.00

This program initiates Veridical Team Teaching in the Visual Arts Program with Sandtown Middle School by starting with an Exchange Art Exhibition of students are work from Westlake and Sandtown.  This program will increase student awareness of art courses and art opportunities on the high school level such as Advance Placement Studio Art and Design.

Grant #3 - Lovie Gaines - Houston $3000.00

AP Forums - The purpose of the program is to prepare 12th grade Advanced Placement Literature and composition students to analyze/apply skills learned to pass the AP Literature and Composition Test.  Activities will be utilized to analyze (novels, prose, sample argument essays) the works of guest novelist, authors, poets, College Board editors, attended plays and critique novels.
