2009 Sandtown Educational Foundation Grants

The Sandtown Foundation proudly announces the award recipients for the 2008-2010 school year.

Smart Boards: Sponsored the purchase of 10 smart boards to enable interactive, student centered learning.  The smart board will allow an overhaul of the classroom tools for teachers.  The E-Instruction Mobi portable white board will assist teachers in providing similar learning experiences to local community students.  Other schools are deploying these tools and this assures our children will have access and be on par with other students.  Project was sponsored by Lynda Lee Osborne at Randolph Elementary School. Randolph Elementary was awarded a grant of $3,400.

Star Math is a computer based software that is designed to determine the math level of each student, measure individual and class progress and forecast results on standardized tests with accurate, reliable and efficient assessments.  The project is sponsored by Clatrina Lane at Stonewall Tell Elementary School.  It is expected that over 150 students will benefit from this program.  Stonewall Tell was awarded a grant of $2,548.30.

Oratorical Contest.  Nikkole Flowers is the sponsor of this contest at Sandtown Middle School.  This  program is designed to focus on strengthening  the written and oral presentation skills of middle school students.  This contest will be open to all of the students at the school in the next school year.  A grant of $500 was awarded to Sandtown Middle School.

This year the Foundation focused on awarding grants had an academic focus.  Our mission is to enhance the learning experience of our local schools. We are so proud of the work our awardees are doing and commend them on fulfilling a critical need in our community.  We celebrate their efforts because if not them, then “WHO” would take on this task for our children.
